“I can’t imagine Gowen not being there. Boise would lose a lot to not have that facility, from how much it directly supports our families to how many people are involved.” -Jenny Taylor

For Chris and Jenny Taylor, doing business with Gowen Field is personal. As the son of a backcountry pilot, Chris remembers being in awe of the F-4s as they taxied past them en route to his family’s next adventure. As the daughter of a regionally and nationally recognized Guardsman, Jenny’s fondest memory of Gowen Field is her father’s retirement ceremony — where she fully learned the “great honors and accolades” he received as a Master Sergeant of Mechanical Warfare.

Today, Gowen Field is an integral part of their business at Fisher’s Technology, which provides copiers, printers, scanners and other equipment to the base. Fisher’s established a dedicated team to support the base and other government operations. The company proudly employs veterans and can trace its roots back to the 1930s, similar to Gowen Field. Both have contributed to the community ever since.

Among the most enduring and important contributions to the community is Gowen’s economic benefit. Those employed by Gowen raise their families here, who in turn support restaurants, stores and a wide range of local businesses. “We support local accountants and lawyers and other related industries,” notes Chris. “So the network effect of them being here financially, personally and then economically for this Valley is significant.”

While the contributions to both Fisher’s and the local economy are critical, both Jenny and Chris have a deep appreciation for the depth of operations and support at Gowen Field, and what it means to those who grew up in Boise.

“Just to see how many people are actually involved in the Air Guard, with very specialized training facilities for the A-10s, is really impressive. I think we take that for granted,” notes Jenny. “Every time I go out there its more and more impressive.”

Chris describes the legacy of Gowen Field being “our connection to the military… it's our opportunity to be prideful, to understand what the military does for us and have respect for the level of professionalism and leadership out there.” Chris continues, “They are ready to help when help is needed, whether that be national security issues, terrorism issues, or a natural disaster — they’re trained in a broad range of disciplines. They stand ready to protect us.”
